đź’ˇ For basic questions: Canvas guide on Chalmers intranet

Canvas is the learning management system used at Chalmers. When Being course assistant, you might be asked to create and administer a Canvas course. When creating a new Canvas course, you may want to start by copying the Canvas course from last year (see here). For this, consider asking the course’s examiner to add you as “teacher” to last year’s course. You can then copy content into the new course yourself.
If there is no (or only a bad) Canvas course from last year which you have access to, the following templates may give you some inspiration:
- A base template derived from the course TEK745. Just offering a base structure for the course homepage.

Some other tips worth considering are:
- Consider hiding navigation links (e.g. “Files”, “Pages”) to show students only what you want them to see → see here
- Consider using group sets, e.g. to enable dedicated discussion spaces or being able to create group assignments → see here
- Link to the same file (e.g. Syllabus) only in ONE place. Otherwise, updating links manually becomes a nightmare.
- Upload preparation material (e.g. articles, videos) and link them for every session. Students will appreciate this.
- Discuss with other people involved in the course (esp. lecturers) who is responsible for uploading and updating course content such as session descriptions and lecture slides. Recommended approach:
- Copy content from last year (or create blank page if not applicable)
- Ask lecturers to add/adjust “their” content on their own
