Your line manager is responsible for your employment at Chalmers. They handle issues related to your employment such as vacation, sick leave, and work environment. They should invite you to yearly appraisal talks. If your supervisor and line manager are the same person you will have your appraisal talk with someone else but will not be appointed another line manager.
The role of the main supervisor Ø draw up an individual study plan together with the doctoral student after consultation with the student's examiner Ø give qualified supervision Ø participate in the doctoral student's follow-up meetings with the director of studies at the graduate school Ø assess, together with the examiner, the doctoral student's capacity for reaching the degree Ø approve, together with the examiner, that the doctoral thesis is printed
The role of the examiner Ø approve the doctoral student's individual study plan Ø participate in the follow-up of the doctoral student's research education Ø assess, together with the main supervisor, the doctoral student's capacity for reaching the degree Ø sign the written request for the doctoral students licentiate seminar Ø approve (after consultation with the main supervisor) the doctoral student's licentiate thesis Ø approve the licentitate seminar Ø sign the written request for the doctoral student's thesis defence Ø approve, together with the main supervisor, that the doctoral thesis is printed
The role of the director of studies Ø support the doctoral student, the supervisors and the examiner Ø call and chair follow-up meetings with the doctoral students at the graduate school Ø take the initiativ in calling for extra follow-up meeting in case of insufficient progression Ø inform the Vice Head of Department in case of insufficient progression Ø guarantee that the doctoral students (revised) individual study plan (ISP) is signed and archived at the department Ø be active in reviews of the graduate school Ø contribute to different activities at the graduate school
