Description
Academic knowledge is mostly communicated through journal articles (How to: Journals) and conferences (How to: Conferences). Visiting seminars can be a useful addition for staying up-to-date on the current thought out in “the field”, for several reasons:
- At seminars, fresh thoughts are being presented - sometimes years before they get published
- Seminars, if open to the public, are highly accessible
- Today, some seminars are even being recorded and available to follow re-live
Unfortunately, it can be hard to get information about seminars (or seminar series) of relevance to you. Places to look for:
- Seminars at your division → ask your supervisor
- Seminars at other TME divisions → ask a colleague ()
- Seminars at other universities → ask a colleague (), Google “X seminar” or “X webinar”
- Seminars at research networks/communities → ask a colleague (), Google “X seminar” or “X webinar”
